Best Entertaining Movies of the Last 25 Years
The “great” films of the previous 25 years, if Oscars were the only reliable metric, would include Best Picture winners like Birdman, 12 Years a Slave, Argo, and The Artist. And despite the fact that those are great films, they aren’t even included in this new list of popular films chosen by fans.
The films chosen by IMDB users as the best of each year were broken down by Vanity Fair. It’s interesting to note that Leonardo DiCaprio movies predominated the frame, despite the Academy’s failure to acknowledge Leo’s brilliance. Additionally, Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese received positive reviews from IMDB users, while Christopher Nolan also did quite well. The top 10 “Best” films over the last 25 years would look like this if IMDB chose the year-end winners instead of the Academy. Say you concur?
The best movie directed by Martin Scorsese? That debate was audible. It is undoubtedly the most Scorsese-like of the director’s films, incorporating all of the exaggerated Italian stereotypes and criminal beats that viewers have come to identify with his work (whether unfairly or not). Goodfellas managed to be its own nasty, unpredictable animal, which is what makes it so unforgettable, while countless gangster films try to step out from under the shadow of The Godfather.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The film reshaped Anthony Hopkins’ on-screen persona by bringing Hannibal Lecter back to the big screen (after he was represented by Brian Cox in Manhunter) and establishing a horrifying mentoring relationship with Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster). We never again regarded fava beans in the same way.
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
It’s difficult to imagine a period when Samuel L. Jackson wasn’t a staple of the movie industry or when Quentin Tarantino didn’t give the actor whatever job he desired. But it’s true. Jackson once auditioned for a role in Reservoir Dogs but was not cast. why wasn’t Tarantino to blame?
Jackson opens up to Vulture about the audition that went awfully wrong (using the profanity lovingly in reference to his close buddy Quentin Tarantino). Jackson went in to audition for a role in a new movie for an undiscovered screenwriter after making an impact with Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever.
Schindler’s List (1993)
For the second time on this list, IMDB concurs with the Academy and names Steven Spielberg’s intimate, heartfelt, and brilliant WWII drama as the finest picture of the year. It’s difficult to argue against Schindler’s List inclusion given the film’s enduring influence and Spielberg’s variety in his body of work.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences hosted a screening and Q&A to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Both Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, who starred in the film, were present, in addition to writer-director Frank Darabont. The trio revealed some stunning revelations while providing some behind-the-scenes information about the movie and its production. The Shawshank Redemption was saved from an unclear conclusion by studio remarks, which some viewers could have found too difficult to handle.
The initial draughts of the script, which was adapted from the Stephen King short tale “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption,” concluded with Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding (Morgan Freeman) boarding a bus to Andy Dufresne’s (Tim Robbins) long-desired sanctuary in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Se7en is regarded as David Fincher’s masterpiece. In addition to gleefully embracing its dark and anti-Hollywood mission, Fincher uses every trick in the book to carefully seduce the audience into his horrific universe while keeping them hooked to the edge of their seats. However, the main reason it is viewed in this way is because of its stirring yet eerie conclusion, which is supported by a specific box that John Doe has sent to Agent Mills and Agent Somerset in the desert.
It is impossible to dispute the impact of Fargo, the Coen Brothers’ chilliest movie to date (in every sense of the word). Fargo is currently a popular cable television series. However, go back and watch William H. Macy’s acting master class. The year 1996’s top motion picture? You’re pretty darn cool!
The English Patient (1996)
Michael Ondaatje published a book called The English Patient in 1992. In the course of the novel, four disparate individuals were thrown together in an Italian villa during the Second World War’s Italian Campaign. An unrecognizably burned man who is the titular patient and is assumed to be English, his Canadian Army nurse, a Sikh British Army sapper, and a Canadian thief are the four key protagonists. The narrative takes place during the North African Campaign and is focused on the character development of the patient and the emotional reactions of the other characters as the patient’s deeds leading up to his injuries are gradually revealed. Several characters, as well as the “writers” of the books the characters are reading, tell the story.
Life Is Beautiful (1997)
L.A. Confidential was the only 1997 movie released that was superior to Titanic. Following that, I would hear a defense of As Good As It Gets, which was viewed as James L. Brooks’ attempt to recapture some of his brilliance. Perhaps Good Will Hunting, given Robin Williams’ powerful performance. Which movie have I yet to mention, do you notice?
The movie Titanic is one of my favorites. I love watching romantic comedies, and I also enjoy learning about the sad Titanic. Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet play the lead roles as they portray the epic tale of the Titanic in the film.
A young, impoverished man named Leonardo sails from London to New York in 1912 on the magnificent ship Titanic, with a lofty aspiration. On board, he meets Kate Winslet, a gorgeous and well-off woman. The moment he sets eyes on this stunning woman, he falls in love. After a few days, though, the ship runs aground on a massive iceberg, and the tragedy starts to play out.
The Golden Age of Podcasts: Why Audio Content is Thriving
In recent years, podcasting has seen a massive surge in popularity, leading many to declare it the “golden age of podcasts.” Listenership has increased exponentially, and a growing number of creators are embracing the platform as a way to connect with audiences and tell stories in new and innovative ways.
Podcasts offer a level of convenience and accessibility that few other forms of media can match. They can be listened to anywhere, at any time, and on any device, making them the perfect companion for commutes, workouts, or any other downtime on a busy day. In an age where people are constantly on the go, podcasts offer a way to stay informed, entertained, and engaged, without having to set aside dedicated time to do so.
Another factor contributing to the success of podcasts is the intimacy and connection they foster between hosts and listeners. Unlike traditional broadcast media, which can often feel impersonal and one-sided, podcasts allow hosts to speak directly to their audience, establishing a sense of rapport and community that can be difficult to achieve through other mediums.
The Convenience Factor:
Podcasts are thriving because of the level of convenience they offer to listeners. Unlike traditional media, which requires dedicated time and attention, podcasts can be listened to while doing other things, such as commuting or exercising. With the ability to listen anywhere and at any time, podcasts have become a go-to source of entertainment and information for people on the go.
The Intimacy and Connection:
One of the most significant reasons for the popularity of podcasts is the level of intimacy and connection they foster between hosts and listeners. Unlike traditional media, which can feel impersonal and one-sided, podcasts allow hosts to speak directly to their audience, establishing a sense of rapport and community. Many podcasts also encourage listener feedback and engagement, further strengthening the relationship between creators and their audience.
The Low Barrier to Entry:
With relatively low barriers to entry and minimal overhead costs, anyone with an idea and a microphone can start their own podcast and share their unique story or perspective with the world. This has led to a proliferation of niche podcasts covering topics ranging from true crime to sports to politics, providing a wealth of options for listeners looking to explore new interests or find content tailored to their specific tastes.
The Power of Storytelling:
Podcasts have become a powerful platform for storytelling, allowing creators to tell long-form stories in a way that other media cannot. With the ability to delve deep into a topic or narrative, podcasts have become a preferred medium for investigative journalism, true crime, and personal storytelling.
The Rise of Audio Fiction:
Audio fiction has become increasingly popular in recent years, with podcasts providing a platform for writers to create immersive stories that engage listeners in a way that traditional media cannot. With the ability to create a rich soundscape and vivid characters, audio fiction podcasts have become a favorite among fiction fans.
The Flexibility of Format:
Unlike traditional media, which is often constrained by format, podcasts offer creators the flexibility to experiment with different formats and structures. This has led to a proliferation of podcasts that range from short-form news updates to long-form interviews to serialized fiction.
The Personalization of Advertising:
Podcasts have become an increasingly attractive platform for advertisers, with the ability to target ads to specific demographics and interests. As a result, podcast advertising has become more personalized and relevant, leading to higher engagement and conversion rates.
The Global Reach:
With the ability to reach a global audience, podcasts have become a powerful tool for creators to connect with listeners from around the world. This has led to a diversification of perspectives and voices, with podcasts providing a platform for underrepresented communities to share their stories and perspectives.
The Evolving Technology:
As technology continues to evolve, so too does the podcasting industry. With new innovations in audio production and distribution, podcast creators have more tools than ever to create high-quality content and reach wider audiences.
The Future of Podcasting:
As podcasting continues to grow and evolve, it’s clear that it has become an essential part of the media landscape. With a diverse range of voices and perspectives, a flexible format, and the ability to reach a global audience, podcasts are poised to become an increasingly important platform for storytelling, education, and entertainment in the years to come.
The golden age of podcasts is a testament to the power and appeal of audio content. With a level of convenience and accessibility that few other forms of media can match, podcasts have become an essential part of the media landscape, offering a platform for diverse voices and perspectives to be heard.
