3 People are Killed and 13 Injured in Shootings at Brazilian Schools

Authorities said that on Friday, a former pupil who was carrying a semiautomatic pistol and wearing a bulletproof vest broke into two schools in southeast Brazil and opened fire, killing three people and injuring 13.

According to a statement from the state’s public security secretariat, the shootings happened at a public school serving elementary and middle school kids as well as a private school, all of which are situated on the same street in the small town of Aracruz in Espirito Santo state.

A pupil, and two teachers, and both were slain. The shooter, a 16-year-old teenager who had attended the public school, was apprehended by police four hours later, according to Espirito Santo Governor Renato Casagrande.

The name of the suspect was withheld by the authorities. According to a video released by the secretariat’s press office, the attacker was captured on security camera footage sporting a bulletproof vest and firing a semiautomatic weapon during the strikes.

Casagrande said that the former student’s father, a military police officer, is the rightful owner of the firearm. In addition to the fatalities, 13 other people were hurt, including nine teachers, according to Celente, who also mentioned that the shooter in the public school broke a lock to obtain entry to the teachers’ lounge.

Two toddlers and six other injured people were still being treated in hospitals on Friday afternoon. Although school shootings are rare in Brazil, they have become more frequent in recent years.
