On Sunday, an auto rickshaw was parked alongside the Padil-Pumpwell Main Road in Mangalore. On November 19, 2022, a small blast reportedly came from a bag the passenger was carrying, and the autorickshaw began to burn as it was moving through the city.

The moving vehicle was suddenly enveloped in smoke and came to a stop, as seen in CCTV footage from a nearby commercial building. But it didn’t seem like much damage had been done to the car.

The low-intensity blast in an autorickshaw that injured two people in Mangaluru on Saturday, November 19, according to Karnataka Police Chief Praveen Sood, was “not accidental but a terrorist act meant to do considerable harm,” he declared on November 20.

The police are looking into it with central agencies, according to a tweet from Mr. Sood, the director general of police.

“It is now verified. The explosion is not unintentional; rather, it was purposefully set off in order to cause significant harm. Along with federal agencies, the Karnataka State Police is deeply investigating this, he tweeted.

Shashi Kumar, the police commissioner for Mangaluru, stated the following the incident on November 19 within the jurisdiction of the Kankanady police station: “At around 5:15 p.m. or so, a passenger’s luggage caught fire in an auto rickshaw, injuring both the injured passenger and the driver as well as causing burns. transferred to the hospital.

Premraj, who they claim has 40% burn injuries, is the passenger who was riding in the auto-rickshaw, according to police sources.

His origins were in Mysuru, according to documents he had. The police claimed that after further investigation it was discovered that he actually belonged in Hubballi and that an explosive ingredient had been discovered in the luggage he was carrying. Another item in the suitcase was a pressure cooker as well as several wires (circuits).

Police stated the auto-rickshaw driver, named as Purushottam, was traveling from Mangalore Junction Railway Station to Pumpwell when the explosion took place and that he is safe. After Premraj had been riding in the auto-rickshaw for a while, the explosion happened close to the Kankanady police station.
