You want to work remotely and vacation… but where? As part of our advice for remote workers, we’re ready to tell you about our preferred cities. Where are the greatest places to work remotely this year?
The cities on this list have proven to be popular selections for working remotely while vacationing.
Among the many considerations we evaluated in compiling this list of geographical arbitrage are city characteristics like friendliness to foreigners, cost of living, availability of coworking spaces, access to culture and wonderful food, yearly weather, and networking opportunities.
All of the cities listed here feature a profusion of cool coworking spaces, cafes where remote work is permitted, such as in Mexico City and Taipei, and a welcoming local community.
USA (United States)
For some professionals, leaving the United States is not an option, especially since employers need remote work to be done from within the United States.
We’ve worked remotely from several of these US places, and we’ve had fantastic experience leveraging the local environment and other remote work technologies.
New York, Brooklyn
To begin, let us state unequivocally that Brooklyn is not Manhattan. We’re not haters, because we’ve both lived in Manhattan!
But Brooklyn is more of a ‘town,’ and each neighborhood has its own feel, with fewer skyscrapers bearing down on you and blocking out the light… unlike Manhattan.
That’s why we recommend Brooklyn for digital nomads and remote workers: there are neighborhoods with small-town vibes and indie boutique shops, mom-and-pop restaurants and cafes to work from while sitting on a quiet street, and beautiful parks filled with locals and minus the tourists.
If you can find an affordable place to call home for one or two months, you’ll have a great time as a visiting remote worker living in Brooklyn.Are there any other reasons we think Brooklyn is the best area to work remotely? Well, there is good public transportation (the subway and buses!) to the rest of NYC, so you can constantly be discovering culture in Queens, lesser-known landmarks in Manhattan, and day trips out of town, such as to Beacon, NY.
In addition, we encourage you to visit Brooklyn Heights, one of our favorite historic waterfront districts.
As a digital nomad, you’ll find fast WiFi in cafés and coworking spaces, inviting professional communities, clubs, and meetups to join, and access to a wide range of activities such as athletics and social groups.
Seattle, Washington
Seattle, one of the most important cities on the West Coast of the United States, is a hub for big commerce, big tech, the birthplace of some amazing coffee, and plenty of nature, if you can hop in a car and go to areas like these within Washington State:
So, why not base yourself in Seattle as a remote worker or digital nomad for a while? Seattle ranks fairly high among remote work destinations. There is free WiFi throughout the city, super-fast WiFi, great walkability in downtown areas, a friendly startup environment, friendly for women, outstanding LGBTQ+ safety, excellent nightlife, and a fantastic choice of remote work venues for coworking are among its greatest attributes.
Texas’s capital city, Austin
Do you want to work from home in Austin, Texas? Many individuals appear to think so, and as a result, there are several reports of digital nomad experiences in this large and ‘blue’ Texan metropolis famed for BBQ, liberalism, entrepreneurship, and all-around FUN for young people.
Austin’s strongest assets as a destination to work remotely in the US are its well-known super-fast WiFi, free WiFi throughout town, walkability in urban areas, outstanding healthcare and hospitals (essential! ), a diverse range of places to work from when working remotely, and exciting nightlife.
There appears to be a lot to enjoy about Austin, and we have some friends there right now that keep returning to work remotely!
Oregon’s Portland
Portland, Oregon, made our list of destinations to work remotely while traveling in the United States.
Portland appears to be recognised for the big three when it comes to areas to work remotely within the United States: happiness factor and fun, fantastic assortment of sites from which to work as a digital nomad, and lightning-fast WiFi for all those work calls.
But first, a little about Portland: this city on the West Coast of the United States is known for breweries, outdoor activities, and a burgeoning restaurant scene.
Portland also appears to be welcoming to a wide range of people, from the LGBTQ+ community to expats.The quality of life score helps to recruit professional expertise, which contributes to Portland’s status as a startup hub.
Boulder, Colorado and Denver, Colorado
Let’s head to the mountains – the mountains of Colorado, that is. Denver and Boulder are recognised as outdoor sports meccas in the United States, and our friends who live there live an active lifestyle that includes hiking, bicycling, trail running, and skiing.
Colorado residents appear to be among the fittest in the entire United States!
In terms of coworking or working remotely as a digital nomad from Denver or Boulder, WiFi is generally fast and there are plenty of venues to work from, making both towns very remote-friendly at the end of the day.
In terms of culture, Denver and Boulder, its smaller but equally potent Coloradan counterpart, both provide aspects such as clean air quality, four vibrant seasons, excellent hospitals and healthcare, excellent quality of life, and high ratings from remote workers.
